Christmas parties under pressure: inns are losing clubs!

In Vorarlberg, the Christmas party season is being put to the test due to growing competition and price cuts. Gastronomy spokesman Mike Pansi reported that more and more clubs are offering their rooms for celebrations, which could result in a decline in sales of around 20 percent for many restaurants. The situation is less dramatic in the cities, where the booking situation remains stable, as Pansi explained. In addition, companies have already started moving their Christmas parties to spring in order to save costs and replace traditional buffets with cheaper alternatives. These trends are reflected in a general reluctance to consume alcohol.

Christmas statistics and trends

In addition to the changes in Christmas celebrations, the demand for traditional products is showing an interesting development. According to current data, Germany imports hundreds of thousands of Christmas trees from Denmark every year to meet domestic demand. In 2024, Christmas trees will be cultivated on an area of 19,100 hectares, with 3,310 companies in Germany cultivating these crops. Chocolate production is also expected to increase by 4.6 percent in 2023, with more than 13.6 kilograms of chocolate being consumed per capita. This creates a festive atmosphere in the home. Meanwhile, roast goose remains less common on tables, with imports falling dramatically by more than 50 percent over the past decade.
