Warning strikes paralyze air traffic: chaos at German airports!
Extremely disruptive warning strikes caused massive disorders in air traffic in Germany on Monday. At 13 airports, including the important Munich Airport, the employees came to the end, while the tariff dispute escalated with the Verdi union. According to a spokesman from Verdi, the actions are scheduled for 24 hours, and the effects are enormous: steamed travel dreams for tens of thousands of passengers and a shocking number of canceled flights. The entire air traffic was severely affected at Linz-Hörsching Airport, since three flights to Frankfurt am Main were struck, where there is also a strike. On Monday there was only one single flight to London.
Only around 170 of the originally 820 planned flights at Munich Airport can take place, which means that almost 80 percent of the flights are. There were already 40 flights on Sunday. Compared to an earlier 48-hour warning strike, which affects significantly fewer airports, the episodes are more serious this time. The early announcement of the strikes aimed at giving the traveling planning security, but now hundreds of flights are canceled, which brings many passengers to the bredouille. Among other things, Verdi calls for a tariff increase of 8 percent or at least 350 euros more per month as well as improved surcharges for unfavorable working hours, while employers reject these claims as unrealistic, as the evening newspaper Munich reported.
