Warning strike in Weingarten: Employees fight for wages and jobs!
A dramatic warning strike shocked the workforce of the auto press manufacturer Schuler in Weingarten on Thursday! IG Metall has mobilized employees to fight against the threatened closure of the site and for higher wages. There is great discontent because around 300 employees fear for their jobs while the automotive industry is in a lull in orders!
The warning strike began at 1 p.m. with an impressive rally. The union is demanding a whopping seven percent more wages and 170 euros more for trainees and students. But worries about the future are omnipresent! The Andritz Group from Austria, to which Schuler belongs, has already indicated that the location will be closed due to the economic situation. However, the exact closing date remains a mystery!
Fear for the future of employees
The uncertainty is palpable! The workforce is wondering what will happen after a possible closure. Schuler has promised that some employees could move to other locations or even work from home, but there is great skepticism. An anonymous employee expresses concerns: “Anyone who comes from Weingarten will hardly be willing to move to Göppingen!” The employees feel let down because there has been no production in Weingarten since 2017. The site, which once employed over 1,000 people, has turned into a shadow of its former self.
The situation is tense and the future is uncertain! Schuler employees in Weingarten are at a critical point where their voices must be heard. The pressure on company management is growing, while concerns about jobs and fair wages are getting louder!
