Election campaign with hate: AfD causes excitement in Karlsruhe
A controversial election campaign by the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) has caused a stir in Karlsruhe. Flight tickets with the words “deportation ticket” printed on them were found in the mailboxes of people with a migrant background. These so-called “tickets” were provided with a QR code that led to the AfD Karlsruhe website. The reason for the heated discussion were the reports that similar flyers were also distributed at the federal party conference in Riesa SWR reported.
Police are investigating charges of sedition
The criminal police have started an investigation because there is suspicion of sedition. A spokesman said that there were initially no reports, but information about the incidents had been received on social media. The AfD responded to the allegations and emphasized that these were not targeted distribution campaigns to people with a migrant background. Instead, a total of 30,000 copies were distributed to the people without any special requirements. According to AfD city councilor Oliver Schnell, the back of the flyers, on which legally compliant demands can be found, has so far been ignored in the discussion crown reported.
Karlsruhe's mayor Frank Mentrup (SPD) expressed sharp criticism of this election campaign and believes that it has crossed a line that endangers social cohesion. He warned that such actions could fuel feelings of insecurity and fear. Karlsruhe member of the Bundestag Marc Bernhard confirmed that between 20,000 and 30,000 flyers were circulated. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the distribution was not specifically looking for foreign-sounding surnames, but rather that it was election advertising for everyone. The action has already attracted the attention of politicians, and even the Left Karlsruhe has announced that it will take legal action.
