Vandalism in Beverungen: City acts against toilet deprivation!
In the past few weeks, several cities in Germany have struggled with vandalism and willful impurities in public toilets. The cities of Beverungen and Alzey are particularly affected.
In Beverungen, two further incidents have occurred since the beginning of the year, in which public toilets were badly damaged in the service center on Weserstrasse. The walls and doors were dirty, ceiling panels were torn out and the handle on the disabled toilet was torn down. Overall, the city has recorded around a dozen vandalism cases in the past 20 months. In order to counteract the problem, the city is now taking consequences: from Monday, January 13th, the toilet will be closed at 4 p.m. and the controls are expanded. Similar incidents were reported in Alzey, where unknown perpetrators willingly clogged public toilets. Between Thursday and Sunday, several toilets were clogged at different locations, including Ostdeutsche Straße and the leisure site "Am Hermry". The toilets then had to be blocked, and specialist companies were commissioned to eliminate the contamination. There were a special challenge tons of clothing found in the drain pipes. Whole garbage bags were removed from the drains. Since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded a total of eleven incidents of this type. The cleaning costs vary, starting at least 200 euros for simple constipation up to over 1,200 euros in persistent cases. Mayor Steffen Jung said that this condition was no longer acceptable.
