Fatal accident in Laa an der Thaya: Young passenger dies tragically!
In the early morning hours of June 7, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred in Lower Austria that had tragic consequences. At around 12:15 a.m., a 28-year-old man from the Mistelbach district lost control of his vehicle on the LB6 in the municipality of Laa an der Thaya. For unknown reasons, the car left the road to the right and crashed into a field driveway. The dramatic effects of this accident caused the vehicle to roll over several times and finally come to a stop on its roof, reports 5min.at.
There were two passengers in the vehicle during the accident, a 38-year-old passenger and another 29-year-old passenger, also from the Mistelbach district. The 29-year-old was thrown out of the car during the impact and died at the scene of the accident. Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle only suffered minor injuries, but the passenger was seriously injured. Since he was trapped in the vehicle, he had to be freed by the volunteer fire department. He was flown with the Christophorus 2 rescue helicopter to Vienna General Hospital to be treated there. An alcohol test on the driver showed a positive result, which is why his driver's license was temporarily taken away. In order not to endanger the rescue and recovery work, the B6 was closed until 3 a.m. in the morning.
Road safety in Austria
Unfortunately, accidents like the one in Laa an der Thaya are not isolated cases. The recording of road traffic accidents with personal injuries is an important concern in Austria. The results are published quarterly and annually in order to better analyze trends and developments.
In Germany, as can be seen on Statista, the number of traffic accidents has increased in recent decades. There were around 2.5 million road traffic accidents in 2023. The number of accidents resulting in personal injuries has remained relatively constant over the past few decades, despite the increase in traffic density. The most common causes of such accidents are insufficient distance, improper speed and driving under the influence of alcohol.
