Urspring Basketball: Exciting rise in the NBBL thriller against Jena!
The Urspring Basketball Academy teams can boast an exciting start to the new season of the national basketball leagues. While the NBBL team lost a hard-fought low scoring game on a Sunday, the JBBL team had some impressive performances right at the start of the season.
Last Friday, the academy's Doppell licensed players demonstrated their offensive strength in the ProB game against Leitershofen and won 100:91. But just two days later things were completely different for the U19 players in Jena. The first game of the season in the Junior Basketball Bundesliga (NBBL) was a real game of patience. At halftime the teams separated with a meager score of 36:29. The hit rate of the Urspring players was in great need of improvement at this point. The third quarter brought little improvement, with the score tied at 8:8, meaning the scoreboard only read 44:37 after three quarters.

But the final section of the game was marked by a dramatic change. After coach Jakob Burger's team had fought to get to 48:46, Julijo Kendes scored the decisive three-pointer that put the guests in the lead 50:51. In a nerve-wracking final phase it was an outburst by the Jena coach who tipped the situation in favor of the Urspring players with a technical foul. The score was 51:54. Science City Jena tried one last effort, but their successful three-pointer was immediately answered with free throws from Travis Davis, Leon Geißler and Pablo Estelle, which decided the game with a final score of 54:59 for Urspring. Jenö Pildner was the game's top scorer with 18 points.
While the NBBL team only had to find its feet in the fourth quarter, the U16 team shone at the JBBL opener. The team led by Henning Ballhausen was able to record a clear 89:81 victory against the Young Tigers Tübingen. Particularly noteworthy was the performance of Kyrylo Pyatachenko, who contributed to his team's success with an outstanding 38 points.
Both teams from the Urspring Basketball Academy show different aspects of their playing strength on this first weekend of the new season. While the NBBL team had to prevail in a fighting game, the U16 players demonstrated an impressive offensive and a strong team spirit. Further developments in the coming matchdays are eagerly awaited to see how the teams fare in their respective leagues.
