In order to win the best minds for schools, Gera participates in the large -scale teaching campaign of the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. With school portraits in social networks and striking advertising banners at schools, the city becomes a magnet for teacher candidates. Primary schools in East Thuringia were presented in September, including seven Gera schools. The personal contact and the positive impressions that the city left led to the fact that five young teachers could be stopped on November 1, 2024. "The schools impressed me so much that I can't make up my mind," enthuses one of the new colleagues.

"The direct contact with young people who may not have Gera on the screen is the key to success," explains Cornelia Müller, a consultant for primary schools in the state school office in East Thuringia. The city of Gera wants to strengthen contact between students and the city in the long term. Dr. Frank Rühling, head of the Office for Education, emphasizes that Gera offers an excellent environment for teachers. "We listen to the needs of teachers and their families. They should feel welcome with us," he assures.

In January 2024, the city will invite all teacher candidates to an information event in the cultural and congress center. Topics such as preparation for school service and modern schools are on the agenda. Gera does everything possible to increase the attractiveness as a school location and to continuously improve working conditions for teachers. The future of education in Gera is in motion - and that is only the beginning!
