The public tour of the special exhibition “Giants of the Last Ice Age” begins at 2 p.m. Here it's all about the impressive wildlife of the Ice Age, with a particular focus on the cave hyena and the woolly rhinoceros. Discover the fossils found in Gera 150 years ago and the skeleton of a woolly rhinoceros that died around 36,000 years ago. An unforgettable look into the past awaits you!
Art and creativity in Gera
The Gera City and Regional Library proudly presents the group exhibition “Painting times three”. Until January 11, 2025, art lovers can admire the works of the talented artists Monika Rosenkranz, Elvira Vongehr and Ingo Naumann. Rosenkranz transports visitors with romantic impressions, while Vongehr captures the beauty of animals and nature in her portraits. Naumann, on the other hand, inspires with his landscape paintings, which reflect the fascination of nature. Admission is free – a must for all art lovers!
The Gera Adult Education Center also has exciting courses on offer! On November 15th and 16th, creative minds can develop their textile artistry at the patchwork and quilting course. On November 16th, cartoonist Christian Habicht will share his knowledge and introduce participants to the world of humorous drawing. An ideal weekend for anyone who wants to express their creative abilities!
In addition, an important working meeting of the Thuringian public order offices took place in Gera at the end of October. Representatives from different cities came together to discuss current challenges and develop solutions. “It is important that we as Thuringian cities work closely together to meet the challenges in the areas of public order and security together,” emphasized Oliver Gockel, head of the public order office for the city of Gera. An exchange that strengthens cooperation across city borders!
