In the early dawn of October 31st, the Lennestadt fire department was called to a dramatic traffic accident on the B236 between Trockenbrück and Bamenohl. At around 5:45 a.m. two vehicles crashed, involving several people! In the first car, a Mercedes-Benz Vito, three occupants were able to free themselves. While two of them were only slightly injured and were quickly taken to the hospital, the third remained completely unharmed.

But that's not enough! There was a person in the second vehicle who was seriously injured and required immediate medical attention. To ensure a quick rescue, the fire brigade had to get creative. They removed the two passenger doors and the B-pillar in order to gently and quickly free the injured person from the wreckage. After stabilizing on site, she was flown to a clinic in Bochum with the help of the “Christoph Westfalen” rescue helicopter.

Rescue operation in full swing

The Lennestadt fire department was on site with an impressive force of around 35 emergency services, supported by firefighting groups from Grevenbrück and Elspe. The Olpe district rescue service was also in action, with two ambulances and an emergency doctor! This coordinated operation required full concentration as the B236 had to be completely closed during the entire rescue and recovery work. A police traffic accident investigation team was also on hand to document the incident in detail.

The alerted firefighters not only provided medical care for the injured, but also fought against possible fire hazards by disconnecting the battery of the Mercedes-Benz Vito and collecting any leaking operating fluid. These emergency responders once again demonstrated their exceptional skills and determination under extreme conditions. The dramatic moments of the early morning pointed to the human suffering and the heroic rescuers who often risk the lives of others in critical situations!
