Böbeln: 400 kilos caught fish in the pond - anglers in use!

Chop. They are exciting times for the fishing fans in Döbeln, because the Leipzig angler association has tackled the fishing work in the Bürgergartenteich. This renovation is the continuation of the work that started in the upper pond almost two years ago, but every step brings fresh challenges and promises interesting results.

To catch the fish from the lower pond, a rowboat with an electrical fishing device was used. "The technology is gentle," explains Jacob Kirsch from the Fishing Association. The electricity stuns the fish for a short time, so that they wake up again after about three minutes. This is particularly important to treat the fish without stress and at the same time ensure that other fishing methods, such as the use of a network, do not occur with any unwanted injuries.

Found pikeperch, pike and perch

Equipped with waders, a rod and a kescher, a team of three anglers set off to refresh the pond. They had the first successes within a very short time: two large buckets, filled with a variety of fish, including perch and pike, were collected.

The catch of Zander and a few great carp was particularly exciting. These specimens are largely implemented in the hollow, which, according to Kirsch, is the goal of the action: how to use the animals as gentle as possible.

The fish are sorted according to species to ensure that they are treated accordingly.

The strong sludge of the pond was a reason for the renovation. A renewal of the development is planned, since the mud volume in the lower pond is considerably larger than what was found in the upper pond. According to Kirsch, the mud could be up to half a meter deep. These problems are addressed to improve water quality for future generations.

Fished around 400 kilograms of fish

By the afternoon, around ten to 15 anglers brought a total of around 400 kilograms of fish out of the pond. The assignment started in the morning and lasts until the evening, but the pond has not yet been fished completely. "It was as expected," Kirsch commented on the course of the actions.

The anglers had prepared for lunch time to treat turtles, which have often been spotted in the past, and to ensure that they are not injured. Prevention was taken to offer the animals a safe planting container if they actually go online.

The work at the Bürgergartenteich is expected to continue until the end of 2025. Then the pond is to be prepared again as fishing waters and made suitable for young people, which is a positive view for future anglers in the region. As long as the renovation is in progress, the young anglers in the area switch to other waters.
