Bridge safety in the Ostalbkreis: This is how traffic remains safe!

Aalen has survived a shock in the region: bridge accidents like those in Dresden can shake confidence in the safety of bridges. But there are positive reasons for reassurance. According to Susanne Dietterle, press spokeswoman for the Ostalbkreis district office, the bridges in the Ostalbkreis are in a fundamentally solid condition. In total, the district includes 86 bridges that are regularly inspected according to strict standards, more precisely DIN 1076: thorough every six years, simple and regular visual inspections every three years. “All bridge structures in our area of responsibility have a fundamental substance,” says Dietterle.

Renovation projects: Old bridges become new!

The bridge in Rainau-Schwabsberg, a remnant of the past since 1866, was recently replaced by a new building. This cost a whopping three million euros and took ten months to build. The bridge structures were originally reworked with reinforced concrete in 1982, but the stability was now compromised, which made the decision to renovate hasty. Over the last five years, numerous bridges have been renovated or newly built, including the Rems Bridge in Waldhausen, which was renovated with 1.4 million euros in 2021.

Financial balance of the last few years

In detail, the financial balance sheet over the last five years looks like this: In 2020, bridges in Lorch-Waldhausen, Benzenzimmer and several other places were repaired for a total of 770,000 euros. The new Rems Bridge was built in 2021 and the Blind Rotbrücke Burghardsmühle was renovated in 2022. In 2023, the Ostalbkreis experienced the extensive construction of the new railway bridge in Schwabsberg with an investment of over three million euros. Smaller holdings without major projects are planned for 2024. As far as the upcoming renovation projects are concerned, the district council will make important decisions on October 22nd.
