Farewell to AG Sonnenberg: 30 years of history in Chemnitz!

Chemnitz – An epic farewell is imminent! After 30 years of tireless volunteer work, AG Sonnenberg is pulling the plug. The group, which was founded in 1994 and later joined the Chemnitz Historical Society, is officially disbanded today. At a final lecture, the eventful history and impressive successes of the AG will be celebrated!

Jürgen Eichhorn, 77 years old and board member, looks back on a proud era: "We have existed for 30 years now, and our team is now getting on in years. The majority of us are over 70." Despite the sad closure, the AG can point to a remarkable balance sheet. Around 100 exhibitions, numerous books and valuable publications on the history of the Sonnenberg testify to their extraordinary commitment.

Last lecture and review

The working group's final lecture will take place this evening at 4:30 p.m. and will offer a comprehensive review of three decades of impressive work. The members are proud of what they have achieved and emphasize that the Sonnenberg is much more than just the dark shadows of the past. "If you only want to see the bad, you will find it. But there is also a lot of beauty on the Sonnenberg," explains Eichhorn, who has lived in the district since 1947.

In addition to the chronicle, which has been updated annually since 2008, the AG leaves behind an impressive photo documentation entitled “The faces of the Sonnenberg in the stone”. This documentation shows the architectural highlights and cultural diversity of the district. The future of volunteer work in Sonnenberg remains uncertain, but tonight promises a moving tribute to a remarkable chapter in the neighborhood's history.
