Decline in heavy goods transport: What does this mean for Saxony-Anhalt?
So far in 2024, 6,296 permits for large-capacity and heavy-duty transport have been issued in the state of Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt reported. This shows a significant decrease compared to the 12,438 permits in 2019. Such transports are particularly visible in the run-up to Christmas, when large loads such as Christmas trees are transported for markets. The reasons for the decline are varied and include changes in fee schedules and licensing responsibilities.
Causes of the decline
The declines in permits are due to three main factors. Firstly, a new fee schedule has been introduced since 2021, which creates uniform fees for applications nationwide. As a result, fewer “stockpile” applications have been received, as unused applications now also incur costs. Secondly, the responsibility has changed: The State Administration Office is now only responsible for applications for which the transport begins in Saxony-Anhalt. This development has led to more efficient processing, with applications being processed via the digital system “VEMAGS”. Thirdly, despite a large share of transport of wind turbines, the number of transports applied for has fallen, due, among other things, to the loss of subsidies.
The exact requirements for applying for these transports are in VEMAGS process management set. Completed application forms must be submitted to the responsible road traffic authority. It is crucial that both the applicant and the responsible dispatcher are clearly identified. This ensures a transparent and efficient approval procedure that meets current requirements.
