Mainz Christmas Market 2024: Expensive mulled wine and new cost explosion!

The Christmas market in Mainz is facing a financial explosion! The city of Mainz will have to dig deep into its pockets for the coming season because the costs have literally exploded. An additional amount of a whopping 246,028.82 euros is needed to cover the increasing expenses. On November 19th, the Finance Committee will decide on these enormous additional expenses. But what is driving up costs?

Rising security and infrastructure costs

A main factor is the enormous expenses for event security, which amount to 134,601.00 euros. But that's not all! The GEMA fees also experienced a sharp increase to 36,385.04 euros. The rental costs for toilet containers and the Christmas crib add up to a further 13,378.50 euros. And as if that wasn't enough, spending on the festive sky of lights is also increasing. Originally estimated at 35,000 euros, the only offer is now an incredible 75,000 euros! This means additional costs of 25,000 euros.

The city of Mainz is therefore faced with a financial challenge that could not only influence planning but also the prices for popular delicacies such as mulled wine and potato pancakes. Citizens and visitors must prepare for possible price increases as the city tries to make the 2024 Christmas market a memorable experience despite these financial hurdles.
