In the 55th minute, Gladbach's Stefan Lainer gave Mainz the lead with an unfortunate own goal. The game got off to a lively start, but Mainz suffered a bitter setback in the 20th minute when national player Jonathan Burkardt had to be substituted with a thigh problem. Kleindienst, after a precise cross, showed his instinct for goal with the equalizer. The game then became more exciting - Kleindienst hit Mainz keeper Robin Zentner with a hard shot, while the final phase was characterized by luck and skill on both sides. Gladbach pushed for the winning goal, but Zentner brilliantly kept the draw and secured Mainz a point in an intense match that was full of emotions.
