Cable theft in Birkenfeld: Who is behind the brazen coup?

An incredible theft shocks Birkenfeld! On the night of October 25th to 26th, 2024, unknown perpetrators struck an unfinished building. While the citizens in the region were sleeping peacefully, the unscrupulous duo cut several electrical cables that had already been installed and quickly took them away. But that wasn't all: around 50 meters of unused cable were also stolen!

The police have been alerted and are urgently looking for information about the perpetrators. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity or people near the crime scene on the night in question is asked to contact the local police station in Birkenfeld immediately - the number is 06782/9910. There are currently no leads that could lead to the perpetrators, which makes the investigation more difficult. The damage is significant and casts a shadow over security in the region.

The risks for thieves

The consequences for thieves can be serious. In Germany, they face up to five years in prison if they are arrested. For more serious offenses, such as home burglaries or when a weapon is involved, penalties can even be up to 15 years! Crime statistics show that around 1.8 million thefts were recorded in Germany in 2022 - an alarming increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year. But the clearance rate is sobering: Only around three out of ten cases are solved, with serious differences depending on the type of theft.
