Hundred years of women's voting right: Exhibition inspires young citizens!

The hiking exhibition “100 years of women's voting right” was opened in Burgenland today, on March 20, 2025. This significant exhibition takes place in the change in the state parliament session and can be visited by April 17, 2025. Landtag President Astrid Eisenkopf and Women's Councilor Daniela Winkler emphasized the important role of the right to vote for women, which was laid down in the Austrian constitution in 1918. It represents a milestone for equality and is intended to encourage young women to perceive their political rights. "The exhibition would like to inspire young people and women in particular to get involved politically," said Eisenkopf, as "https://www.burgenland.at/news-detail/wander exhibition-frauenwahl-im-fokus-ein--und-politik-und-geschichte-im-burgenland/"> burgenland.at . Since its first presentation between 2018 and 2020, the exhibition has already reached 43 municipalities.

In the meantime, another hiking exhibition with the title "Nothing was in vain-women in resistance to National Socialism" tours the Bernkastel-Wittlich district. The opening took place on February 3 in the IGS Salmtal. Pupils have developed creative representations of resistance fighters to bring their stories to life. This course, which was created in cooperation with the teachers Jutta Okfen and Patrick Dawson, was recorded in film and can be called up via QR codes during the exhibition. The impressive scenic representations have captivated the audience, as bernkastel-wittlich.de reported.

joint efforts for women's history

Both exhibitions are devoted to the struggle for women's rights and the importance of women in history. While the Burgenlanders celebrate the achievements of women's election law and emphasize their importance for democracy, the history of resistance fighters is recognized in Bernkastel-Wittlich. The course of the exhibitions shows how important it is to hear the votes of women in historiography and make their contributions visible to society. The hiking exhibitions not only offer informative insights, but also a platform for discussion and reflection on the achievements and challenges with which women are faced with. At the same time, they are encouraged to actively stand up for their rights and to participate in society.
