Rhineland-Palatinate: five million euros relief for the district of Ahrweiler!
Rhineland-Palatinate has successfully implemented the program "Partnership to debate the municipalities in Rhineland-Palatinate" (PEK-RP). In 2024, a total of 515 municipalities were relieved nationwide, the total amount of relief is around three billion euros. The district of Ahrweiler received about five million euros from this relief measure. However, the state finance ministry did not publish the exact details of the municipalities concerned.
Finance Minister Doris Ahnen (SPD) said that the municipal old debts of 2.97 billion euros are now in the country. A total of 487 local communities, six associations, five association -free municipalities, nine counties and eight independent cities take part in the program. The approval of the respective municipal councils, city councilors and district councils was required for the conclusion of the participation contract. The notices were issued between May and July 2024, and the program was implemented immediately after the approval.
further developments in the municipal debt relief measures
The state government of Rhineland-Palatinate has also taken over liquidity loans from the state budget for repayment to help the municipalities in current challenges. Prime Minister Malu Dreyer emphasized the solidarity between the country and the municipalities. Over 500 municipalities, including the city of Trier, benefit from the takeover of the old debts. This measure takes place in particular against the background of rising interest and was designed in cooperation with municipal partners.
The municipalities undertake to prevent a new accumulation of liquidity loans. The submission program relieves rural districts, associations, cities and municipalities of repayment obligations and interest payments. The debt relief volume exceeds three billion euros and includes interest relief. An outstanding example is the city of Trier, which is specifically taken over by cash loans in the amount of 266.1 million euros. This relief means that 70 percent less liquidity loans are recorded in the city's budget books.
In Trier, per capita debt also fell by more than 35 percent, which caused Mayor Wolfram Leibe to emphasize the opportunity to invest in projects that create permanent added value.
