Government is planning New Deal for Austria: Hope for new partnerships!
In a crucial phase of Austrian politics, Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) presented the main points of the government program, which should lay the foundation for a new era. "Different perspectives and perspectives are not a weakness, but the strength of our liberal, pluralistic democracy," emphasized Stocker in front of the members of the Federal Council when he presented his plans. Particularly noteworthy is the assurance that the financing of the second mandatory kindergarten year is "secured". Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler (SPÖ) added that the government would appreciate both the parliament and actively involve the opposition factions. This is seen as a sign of a new, constructive political course.
The meeting began with the appointment of new federal councilors, including the Minister of Social Affairs Korinna Schumann (SPÖ), who took over the office of Martina Ludwig-Faymann. The Burgenland Federal Councilor Mario Trinkl, Thomas Schmid (both SPÖ) and Thomas Karacony (FPÖ) were also welcomed in the country chamber. Wilfried Haslauer, the governor of Salzburg, called for a "New Deal for Austria", which aims to reform between the federal and state governments in order to tackle the challenges of the time together. These aspects were discussed as part of the debate about the Federal Council, which according to the words of Manuela Schwesig, the President of the Federal Council in Germany, plays a decisive role for citizens across all countries.
The importance of the Federal Council in Germany
Schwesig recognized the Federal Council as an indispensable organ that reflects the living conditions of the people in Germany. "We know the challenges, from social issues to climate protection," she said, making it clear that the diversity of regional perspectives in the Federal Council plays an important role. It intends to strengthen democracy and support volunteering. In her first speech as Federal Council President, Schwesig expressed solidarity with Israel in the current times of crisis and emphasized the need to promote social cohesion. Their priorities also include the care of international relationships, especially with Poland, and the pursuit of compromises within the German countries.
With the current developments in Austrian and German politics, a phase of change is emerging, which includes both national and international dimensions. The coming years promise an intensive examination of pressing social challenges, while at the same time the foundations of a common democratic community of value are to be strengthened.
