Pistorius warns: Germany must now prepare for an emergency!

Germany is facing an alarming reality! Defense Minister Boris Pistorius made it clear in a gripping speech in Wolfenbüttel that the Bundeswehr in its current form is not able to defend the country in the event of an attack. With only a few soldiers, dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate equipment, the security situation is more than worrying. “We believed in our security for years without really investing,” said Pistorius. Now is the time to eliminate these deficiencies!

In front of around 500 listeners, Pistorius emphasized that Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine must not be forgotten. “Putin now has 1.3 million soldiers – and the number is rising!” he warned. Germany must rely on military deterrence to deter potential aggressors. “Prepare for war if you want peace!” he quoted the ancient Romans, making it clear that a strong defense is essential.

Critical shortage of soldiers and resources

The alarming reality is that Germany does not have enough soldiers to defend the country. Pistorius acknowledged that conscription has been suspended since 2011 and there is a lack of data to mobilize reservists and volunteers. “We need a Bundeswehr that is ready to defend our country – and that is only possible with sufficient personnel and material,” said the minister. Building up the armed forces will take years and time is of the essence!

But there is hope: 85 percent of the special fund should be spent on security by the end of the year. “Tanks, frigates, submarines and ammunition take time, but progress is being made,” emphasized Pistorius. However, the question remains: Do we have enough time to prepare for possible conflicts? The minister calls for clear and sustainable financing of the armed forces and an expansion of civil defense in order to prepare the population for crises.
