Osnabrück gets a new bicycle road: cyclists now have the right of way!

There is great news for all bike lovers in the vibrant city of Osnabrück! The exciting redesign of Ernst-Sievers-Straße is now officially complete and is creating a new lifestyle on two wheels. The section between Rückertstrasse and Kirchenkamp has become the ideal retreat for cyclists, who will in future have the right of way and will even be able to ride next to each other. Motorized traffic is being redefined here: it is merely a “guest” and must subordinate itself to the needs of cyclists!

The new traffic rules on Ernst-Sievers-Straße are a real milestone for Osnabrück. 30 km/h remains the maximum speed, and the previously applicable right-before-left rule has been lifted on this section! Cyclists can rejoice, as all roads branching off from the two junctions will now be given priority over bicycle lanes. For drivers this means: it is important to be considerate! The usual right-of-way rules remain at intersections. This means a smooth transition for all road users.

A central part of the cycling plan

Ernst-Sievers-Straße is an important “velo route” in Osnabrück’s cycling plan. It connects the Weststadt and Hellern districts directly with the city center. The route is not only practical, but also a sign of future-oriented mobility. Ernst-Sievers-Straße is now the eighth bicycle street in the city - a clear step forward in promoting sustainable transport! And it continues: This year, cyclists can look forward to the next redesign in the Sutthausen district, where the streets Am Forsthaus, Zum Töfatt and Egon-von-Romberg-Weg are waiting to be transformed.

Bicycle streets are the new hotspot for environmentally conscious mobility! Here, the focus is clearly on cycling, while cars have to maintain the necessary distance of at least 1.5 meters. With this initiative, the city of Osnabrück is sending a strong signal for an environmentally friendly future and invites all citizens to use the new cycle paths with joy and safety!
