October weather: Late summer heat despite fog and gray!

October remains a true weather miracle! The German Weather Service (DWD) provides exciting prospects: Where the annoying fog finally clears, temperatures will rise to over 20 degrees at the weekend - in the middle of the golden autumn! However, a dramatic split in weather is expected this Saturday. While the north (all fans of sunlight, take note!) gets the sun back by midday, it remains cloudy and gray in the south - absolute fog that lasts all day!

The best chances for a few rays of sunshine are at higher altitudes and around the northern edges of the low mountain ranges. Temperatures there can climb above 10 or 12 degrees. But anyone who stays in the valley will be disappointed by the cold and must expect low temperatures. Sounds like a perfect day for some warm tea!

The fog-high fog-sun problem remains

No recovery in sight: DWD meteorologist Markus Böse explains that the fog-high fog-sun problem will continue to be noticeable in the next few days. There will be little chance of sunshine in the Danube lowlands. The layer of fog will remain stubborn and the patience of sun lovers will be tested! On Sunday and Monday clouds will gather north of the low mountain ranges, which could possibly bring a few drops of rain - but don't panic, a lot of precipitation is not expected!

October as a review of climate change

This October has so far been significantly too warm, with an increase of an incredible two degrees compared to the reference period from 1961 to 1990! This month's average is 9.0 degrees - an interesting perspective for all climate researchers. Interestingly, however, October remains grounded as it was even warmer in 2001 and 2022. The values are preliminary, because the month lasts until Thursday - so stay tuned!
