Christmas tree queen opens festive season in Halver!
The Christmas tree season in North Rhine-Westphalia officially started with a spectacular event in Halver! On Thursday, this year's Christmas tree queen Sarah Neßhöver fell the first Nordmann fir, making a festive sign for the upcoming holidays.
Despite the gray sky and mushy floor, the mood was splendid when the 23-year-old cuts the arm thick trunk with her yellow ironing saw. "I know how much fun the families have on such a beautiful tree in the living room," said the radiant queen, while the raindrops fell from the branches onto their dress. Their first felled tree marks the starting signal for the season, even if many farm owners were already active.
Seven million Christmas trees a year come from the Sauerland
The demand for Christmas trees is enormous! Companies, hotels and private individuals can hardly wait to decorate their trees. Many set up their fir trees before the festival, and for some the tree is even an Advent tree that will be removed again after the turn of the year. "The buyers travel up to an hour and a half to choose their tree directly on site and to fell themselves," reported Eberhard Hennecke, spokesman for the Christmas tree producer North Rhine -Westphalia.
In addition to the classic sizes, there are also an impressive 18 meter high giants on Hof Tacke, where the first Christmas trees were planted in 1970. A nine meter high fir was felled for the Christmas market in Halver and prepared for transport. The Nordmann fir costs 22 euros per meter this year, which is somewhat higher than in the previous season. In the cities, prices can even rise up to 30 euros per meter.
Sarah Neßhöver will also be registered in the Golden Book of the City of Halver, a place that has already been visited by politicians and even an astronaut. But a Christmas tree queen has not yet been there!
