Fusion in the church circle: a new beginning for the Protestant community!

The Evangelical Church in the Rhein-Erft district is planning a significant step into the future: As of January 1, 2026, the church districts of Cologne-Nord, Cologne-Mitte and Cologne-Süd will merge. The new church circle will bear the name of the Köln-Linkrheinisch. This decision was made in response to the decline in the number of members and the increasing church exit.

Pastor Bernhard Seiger, superintendent of the Cologne-Süd church district, emphasizes the need for slim structures. The goal of the merger is a more efficient administration and strengthening community work. The dissolution of the previous borders between the church circles is to be promoted between neighboring communities. Examples of possible cooperations that could arise within the framework of these changes are the municipalities of Frechen and Königsdorf as well as Hürth and Lindenthal. Superintendent Seiger expresses itself optimistic and hopes for new ideas for cooperations.
