Art in silence: Suria Kassimi discovers Nordhalben with camera eyes
The finissage of the artist Suria Kassimi, who comes from Recklinghausen, recently took place in the “Maxhaus” in Nordhalben. During her 14-day stay in the town, Kassimi created an impressive photo exhibition, which has now been presented to the general public. The works shown in her exhibition are the result of her explorations in Nordhalben, where she captured both everyday and special motifs.
The exhibition entitled “Insights – Outlooks – Perspectives” addresses the special features of the region. Kassimi specifically selected motifs that she discovered on site: her collection includes, among other things, vacant buildings, building ruins and attractively decorated windows. This combination of everyday and architectural elements offers viewers a new perspective on the surroundings. Her use of digital prints and Polaroids, often creatively distorted, provides a fresh look at the familiar.
A look at the past
Kassimi describes her perception of the former inner-German border particularly impressively. As a part-Berliner, she only really noticed this historical dividing line during her stay. Her “wall awareness” inspired her to engage intensively with the history and meaning of this place, which is impressively expressed in her work.
The exhibition was able to captivate visitors not only through the visual impressions, but also through the stories behind the images. Many of those present were inspired to reflect on their own perception of the region and its past. Kassimi's works offer an important invitation to think outside the box and reinterpret one's own surroundings.
Kassimi’s exhibition is not the only highlight for the “Maxhaus”. The season ends with a comprehensive exhibition of the work of local photographer Norbert Neugebauer. The opening of this exhibition will take place on “German Unity Day”, October 3rd, at 4 p.m. The “Maxhaus” thus sets exciting accents on the cultural map of the northern half.
