Art in silence: Suria Kassimi discovers Nordhalben with camera eyes

In the "Maxhaus" in Northhalben, the finissage of the artist Suria Kassimi, which comes from Recklinghausen, recently took place. During her 14-day stay in the village, Kassimi created an impressive photo exhibition, which has now been presented to the general public. The works shown in their exhibition are the result of their explorations in Nordhalben, where it recorded both everyday and special motifs.

The exhibition entitled "Insights - views - through views" addresses the special features of the region. Kassimi selected motifs that she discovered on site:, among other things, vacancies, building ruins and appealingly decorated windows belong to her collection. This combination of everyday and architectural elements offers viewers a new perspective on the environment. Their use of digital prints and polaroids, often creatively alienated, ensures a fresh look at the usual.

A look at the past

Kassimi describes her perception of the former inner German border particularly impressively. As a sub-Berliner, she only really perceived this historical dividing line during her stay. Her “wall consciousness” has suggested that she deal intensively with the history and meaning of this place, which is impressively expressed in her work.

The exhibition could not only captivate the visitor through the visual impressions, but also through the stories that are behind the pictures. Many of those present were inspired to think about their own perception of the region and its past. Kassimi's works offer an important request to look beyond the box and to reinterpret your own environment.

for the "Maxhaus" Kassimis exhibition is not the only highlight. The season ends with a comprehensive work of the domestic photographer Norbert Neugebauer. The opening of this exhibition takes place on the "Day of German Unity", October 3, at 4 p.m. The “Maxhaus” thus sets exciting accents on the cultural map of Northhalben.
