Fire brigade extinguishes burning garbage can to Hückeswagen School
In the city Hückeswagen on Friday evening was called for an assignment at the community primary school in Wiehagen. The alarm was triggered after reports on a fire had been received in a trash can on the school grounds.
When the firefighters arrived, the initial reports were confirmed. Unknowns had apparently brought a garbage can onto the soccer field and set them on fire there. In order to avert greater damage to the artificial turf pitch, the firefighters quickly pulled the burning bin off the field, explained Morton Gerhardus from the fire brigade. This quick acting could be avoided possible consequential damage.
Fast intervention by the fire brigade
The fire was quickly brought under control with a small extinguishing device and was deleted after about 30 minutes. This rapid reaction of the emergency services prevented the situation from escalating and ensured that the damage remained limited.
After deleting the fire, the police called in. There are currently no details about the amount of damage, since the investigations are still running.
This incident raises questions, because lighting of garbage cans is not only a violation of the law, but also shows a problem with vandalism that can be observed in many cities. It remains to be seen whether the investigation will lead to the perpetrators and what measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The responsible authorities have an eye on the situation and strive to prevent similar incidents.
