Cardinal Turkson: Design investments according to Christian values!

Köln, Deutschland - Cologne, March 19, 2025 - At a lecture in Cologne, Cardinal Peter Turkson, the President of the Pontifical Academy for Social Sciences, urged to judge investors according to Christian principles. In his speech, he emphasized that it contradicts the Christian vocation of making investments that lead to division, chaos and ecological damage. Instead, investors should strive for the principle of profit optimization and not the maximization of the profit, as he formulated. This request is in the context of the newly published Vatican document "Mensuram Bonam", which serves as a faith-based yardstick for Catholic investors and was presented in German translation on Tuesday, reports the Kathpress .

"Mensuram Bonam" offers over 50-page instructions that should encourage investors to reflect on their faith in the investment decisions. With regard to different cultures and investment models, Turkson noted that clear answers to ethical questions are often missing, since the strategies differ depending on the country. He emphasized that the topicality of the document through current global developments, such as the Ukraine War and discussions about the Lief chain law, has also gained in importance. In addition, the German translation in book form is published and receives accompanying essays from experts, which are funded by the "Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice" foundation, such as Franz-hitze-Haus

These initiatives aim to promote a responsible and just form of investing that is in line with the values of faith. Turkson appealed to investors to improve all their business relationships and to work for a holistic ethical act of action. He concluded with the remark that the traditional ideas of investments would have to be reconsidered in order to make a positive social change.
