Nagelsmann demands DFB team: secure group victory for World Cup preparation!

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – The tension is rising! Julian Nagelsmann, the national coach of the German national team, has clear goals for the last two preliminary round games of the Nations League. He wants to win the group on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. in Freiburg against Bosnia-Herzegovina and on November 19th at 8:45 p.m. in Budapest against Hungary. After an annual record of nine wins, three draws and only one defeat in the European Championship quarter-finals against Spain, Nagelsmann is satisfied but not enthusiastic. “Good, but not very good,” was his verdict. The national players are expected at the team hotel by midday before the first training session on the DFB campus at 4 p.m.

Important personnel in the DFB squad

A highlight is the return of Jamal Musiala, who was out due to injury in October. The young Munich native is in top form and will provide a breath of fresh air together with Florian Wirtz. But Leroy Sané is also in focus! After his break, the striker was called up to replace the injured Deniz Undav. Nagelsmann emphasizes that Sané needs more game practice and rhythm to show his qualities. A year after his unsuccessful appearance with a red card in Austria, Sané has the chance to prove himself.

The returnees Julian Brandt and Felix Nmecha from Dortmund are also important, while Stefan Ortega Moreno is new to the squad as the third goalkeeper. Of the 23 current DFB professionals, 15 were already in the squad at the emotional low point last year, when Germany lost to Turkey and Austria. Nagelsmann has changed a lot, but the continuity remains.

The next steps for the national team

After the two decisive games, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Nations League continues on November 22nd. If Germany wins the group, the home and away games against Denmark, Croatia or France will take place between March 20th and 25th. The draw for the World Cup qualifying groups for the trip to America in 2026 will also take place on December 13th. The excitement is palpable and eyes are on the DFB team!
