A burst underground pipe was the cause of the chaos. Water made its way to the surface and lifted the asphalt! The situation was so serious that the fire department and police immediately arrived to cordon off the area and ensure safety. “The road could be washed out, which means it could collapse,” a firefighter warned, making it clear how dangerous the situation was.
Burst pipes cause massive disruptions
Felix zur Nieden, spokesman for Netze Duisburg, explained that a “classic, slightly larger water pipe” had broken. Construction workers are on site and are working hard to repair the pipe. “We are trying to complete the work on Thursday,” says zur Nieden. The residents of Kalkweg are severely affected by the incident because they have no tap water. A water tank is available to provide fresh water.
