Burglaries in Düsseldorf are increasing dramatically: police sound the alarm!

Crime is on the rise again in Düsseldorf! After a period of security during the Corona pandemic, when residential burglaries were at an all-time low, the situation has changed dramatically. In district 10, which includes the districts of Garath and Hellerhof, an incredible 68 burglaries were recorded in 2023 - that's 42 more than in the previous year! The South Police Inspectorate, headed by Jan Baumann, reports an alarming increase of 161 percent in this area.

The total number of residential burglaries in Düsseldorf rose to 1,368, an increase of 18 percent. To counteract this worrying development, the police have stepped up their measures. Police Chief Miriam Brauns has ordered a “strategic manhunt” that gives officers expanded powers. “We want to significantly reduce the number of cases,” emphasized the police chief at a meeting of the district council. Street crime should not be underestimated either: the reported crimes rose from 344 in 2022 to 384 in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 11.5 percent.

Traffic accidents in the district

The traffic situation in the district, however, appears to be rather stable. There were no traffic fatalities in 2023, but 16 people were seriously injured and 48 were slightly injured, including children and seniors. Two accident spots are particularly dangerous: At the intersection of Koblenzer Strasse and Emil-Barth-Strasse, the gardening department will take measures to improve visibility for cyclists. There were also several turning accidents in Hellerhof, at the intersection of Hellerhofweg, Carlo-Schmid-Straße/Bertha-von-Suttner-Straße.
