Rangnick before change? Dortmund wants to strike again in the summer!

Austria's national soccer team faces an exciting future, while team boss Ralf Rangnick is becoming increasingly the focus of top European clubs. Current reports from Laola1 In 2022 the management of the Austrian national team has received inquiries from renowned clubs, which heats up speculation about his whereabouts in the ÖFB.

After the failed attempt by Borussia Dortmund to sign Rangnick in winter, the club could start a new attempt next summer. Instead, Dortmund chose Niko Kovac as a new head coach, but the door to Rangnick remains open if the club is convinced that he is the suitable candidate for the position. The current status indicates that there is currently no contact between Rangnick and Dortmund, but this could change if Rangnick should be dissatisfied with the internal situation at the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB).

internal challenges at the ÖFB

Rangnick is currently facing internal challenges within the ÖFB that are troubled by him. He is currently urging the appointment of an external president, while the Burgenland President Johannes Wutzlhofer is the favorite for the presidency. A decision about the new president is expected on Friday. Rangnick fears that an internal occupation of the office could undermine its position as team boss and encounter resistance when it comes to the future structure of the ÖFB.

The situation could cause Rangnick to intensify talks with Dortmund if he continues to feel dissatisfaction with the internal processes. Nevertheless, the goal for Rangnick remains clear: the qualification for the 2026 World Cup to lead Austria onto the big stage.

Ralf Rangnick's career path

Ralf Rangnick came into contact with the football business in 1977 after studying teaching for sports and English at the University of Stuttgart. He played for VfB Stuttgart's amateur team and was also active as a player coach. From 1984 he attended the Cologne Sport University, where he acquired his football teacher license. Since then, Rangnick has made an impressive career in which he trained VfB Stuttgart, Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig, among other things. Salzburg became an Austrian champion under his direction in 2014, and Leipzig was promoted to the Bundesliga.

in December 2021, Rangnick took over Manchester United interim, before taking over the management of the Austrian national team in 2022. His successes in football, including Austria's first qualification for the European European Championship 2024, have led to an automatic contract extension by 2026, which further consolidated Rangnick's position.

The coming months will be decisive because Rangnick must weigh both his role at the ÖFB and possible offers from the Bundesliga. Karlsruhe and Dortmund seem to be two possible options, while the pressure within the ÖFB continues to grow.
