The Dortmund Christmas market is about to undergo a spectacular innovation! This year, the impressive XXL Christmas tree on Hansaplatz will feature breathtaking lighting. Showman boss Patrick Arens has announced that the number of LED lights will be increased to an incredible 135,000 - that's more than three times the previous 48,000 lights! This brilliant offensive is intended to amaze visitors and create a festive atmosphere.

But that's not all! The new LED bulbs are not only numerous, but also innovative: They can be controlled individually and offer the option of changing colors. Arens emphasizes that despite the increased number of lamps, the brightness will not be excessive. “It shouldn’t be too bright,” he explains and promises that the tree will be an additional attraction that will increase the anticipation of the Christmas season even more.

A look back and forward

As the Christmas market continues to evolve, Arens also raises concerns about declining lighting in the city. “There used to be more tinsel,” he quotes Loriot and regrets that many shops, such as the Peek & Cloppenburg fashion house, no longer have their facades festively lit. Arens calls for more staging for Dortmund in order to keep the city attractive and increase visitor numbers.

Mayor Thomas Westphal recognizes the economic value of the Christmas market and emphasizes that millions of people flock to Dortmund at Christmas time.
