Shock on Windmühlenweg: resident found dead after kitchen fire!

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Bottrop when neighbors noticed around 10:55 a.m. that the shutters of an apartment on the first floor of a residential building on Windmühlenweg were massively burned. They immediately alerted the fire department because it was unclear whether there were anyone else in the apartment.

The first emergency services reached the scene promptly. Since the situation was not clear, firefighters using breathing apparatus prepared to access the apartment via a ladder. Another group tried to enter through the front door. During the investigation it quickly became clear that there had been a fire in the kitchen.

Cause of fire and discovery of the victim

Fortunately, the fire had already gone out due to a lack of fresh air supply, but the smoke from the fire had spread throughout the entire apartment. In the apartment, the emergency services found the resident lifeless in the living room, and an emergency doctor could only determine that she was dead.

After the woman was found, the apartment was intensively ventilated to eliminate the pollutant air. A few hours after the incident, the police began investigating the exact cause of the fire. The Bottrop fire department, supported by the Altstadt volunteer fire department, was on site with around 35 emergency services. At 11:47 a.m. the last emergency services left the scene after completing their work.

This incident has deeply moved residents in Bottrop and raises questions about possible security measures in residential areas. The exact circumstances that led to this tragic fire are currently being closely investigated. It remains to be seen what results the police investigation will bring.
