Deutsche Post plans drastic job cuts: 8,000 jobs in danger!
Deutsche Post has announced alarming plans: by the end of the year, 8,000 jobs in the letter and package business are to be canceled within Germany. This corresponds to almost four percent of a total of 187,000 employees in this sector. This drastic step is part of a savings program with which Post wants to reduce its costs by more than one billion euros, as the management in Bonn announced. The decline in letter quantities in the digital age and an increasing cost structure force the group to act.
The savings program not only affects national business, but also other areas of the global logistics company DHL, which employs around 600,000 people worldwide. After an increase in sales last year by three percent to EUR 84.2 billion, the operating result fell by 7.2 percent to 5.9 billion euros. Development in the post & package of Germany is particularly critical, where sales stagnate around 17.3 billion euros and the operating result was 5.6 percent. Internal communication shows that management, despite the wage increases that were agreed in the recent tariff with the Verdi union, must expand the cost reduction measures. This agreement provides for a wage increase of three to five percent and additional vacation days.
restrictions on liability
In addition to the HR reduction plans, Deutsche Post has also clarified its liability guidelines for loss or damage. In the case of registered mail Stand, the company is up to an amount of € 25.00 for direct damage, while liability is limited to a maximum of € 20.00 if the registered letter is registered. Valuable content can be sent as registered letters, whereby the German post covers damage up to a value of € 500. However, no valuable items or cash may be sent. These regulations ensure that customers are informed about the liability limits and the conditions for shipment -related complaints.Details | |
