Strike chaos in Lower Saxony: Employees demand a big wage increase!

The industrial dispute is raging in Lower Saxony! At midnight, numerous employees stopped working at the factory gates and thereby made an impressive statement. Led by the IG Metall union, pressure is being built up in the collective bargaining dispute in the metal and electrical industries. The duty of peace is over and the employees are determined to fight for their rights!

Several large companies are in particular focus. Employees gathered in front of the battery manufacturer Varta in Hanover with torches and IG Metall flags to express their displeasure. There were also strikes at Siemens Gamesa in Cuxhaven, ZF in Stemwede and Bosch in Salzgitter. There were also massive demonstrations at the Volkswagen plant in Osnabrück, which the works council classifies as “particularly at risk”. Just on Monday, Volkswagen announced plans to close three plants in Germany, which is further fueling the protests.

Plain text: The demands of IG Metall!

A total of 24 companies in Lower Saxony and 17 companies in the IG Metall Coast area are affected. IG Metall is demanding a whopping seven percent more wages for the over 100,000 employees in Lower Saxony within one year, as well as an additional 170 euros more for trainees! The employers' offer is absolutely inadequate: After the second round of negotiations, there should only be gradual increases spread over 27 months - inadequate in the eyes of the union!

The third round of negotiations begins today in Hanover, while negotiations are also taking place in Kiel at the same time. The situation remains tense and the workers show that they will take to the streets for their rights! The warning strikes have only just begun and are a dramatic sign of resistance in the Lower Saxony economy.
