Neustadt/WN: New light for St. Felix Church, safety in focus!

In Neustadt an der Waldnaab there will soon be revolutionary lighting for the parking lot next to St. Felix Church. The new lighting system will ensure that the square shines brightly even in the dark, distributed by two new 70-watt LED spotlights that will be positioned at the church. Unlike the previous lighting, the new technology is not connected to the existing street lighting system in order to make operation more flexible.

The building committee chose to implement Option C, which proved to be the best way to safely light the parking lot. Christian Schell from the building authority explains that a separate control cabinet will be installed that will enable those responsible - such as the sacristan and the monastery management - to switch on the lamps manually. This new system is expected to cost between 2,500 and 4,000 euros.

Lighting for safety reasons

The main reason for the change is the safety of parking lot users. In the last few months there have been repeated critical situations that made better lighting necessary. The parking lot was originally darkened to save energy and protect against insects, but this has compromised the safety of vehicles parked there. The city council has now decided to reverse this measure and restore the lighting.

The building authority examined three different lighting concepts, including two alternative proposals, which were ultimately rejected. Option A, which involved the use of four solar lamps with motion sensors, would have generated the least cost but raised concerns about light production during cold and snowy days. Variant B, on the other hand, involved the installation of a conventional light source, which would have an estimated cost of around 20,000 euros. The decision for the LED option was ultimately made due to its efficiency and cost-effective approach.

The new lighting system will not only provide greater security, but also a more inviting ambience. With a well-lit area, the parking lot can be used even late at night, providing additional convenience for visitors to St. Felix Church. The upcoming modernization of the parking lot will increase the attractiveness of the entire area.

It remains to be seen how the developments surrounding the new lighting in the St. Felix parking lot will ultimately progress. However, the city's decision clearly shows that safety-first is a high priority, especially when it comes to public spaces where people park their vehicles. In this case, more light will not only significantly improve visibility, but also the feeling of safety.
