New coach Jan Siewert: Can he save the cloverleaf?

A new source of hope for SpVgg Greuther Fürth! Jan Siewert, the 42-year-old trainer from Rhineland-Palatinate, started his mission on Wednesday afternoon to get the ailing cloverleaf back on track. After the resignation of two predecessors this season, Siewert is the third coach to take up the challenge. Despite the pouring rain, he led his first training session with full energy and let his players race around the pitch for 70 minutes.

Intensive first training session

“It was an intense day, but that’s how it has to be,” explained Siewert after training. He was warmly welcomed in Fürth and emphasized how important the exchange with his players is to him. "It's important to me that I listen to the boys. If someone can go onto the pitch with inner peace, it's easier," said the new coach. Siewert has a reputation for having a flair for developing young talent, which sports director Stephan Fürstner particularly values. “He brings a tremendous amount of expertise and knows what young talents need,” Fürstner told “Bild”.

But the task that lies ahead of Siewert is anything but easy. The team has lost four of the last five competitive games and is in a deep crisis after an appealing start to the season. “We all know that the boys can play football,” emphasized Siewert. "We have to do our homework now - whether it's defensive or offensive issues. Then the flow and this self-image will come back." The new trainer is aware of the challenges: "Life is not a beach, but more of a mountain. But I like climbing."
