Mysterious death in Zillingdorf: Two bodies discovered in the sauna!

On April 15, 2025, two bodies were discovered in a sauna in Zillingdorf, Wiener Neustadt district. The victims are a 47-year-old and a 36-year-old. The exact circumstances of the death are still unclear, which is why the public prosecutor's office in Wiener Neustadt has ordered autopsy medical examinations. Possible causes of death, such as accident or suicide, cannot be ruled out. The investigation is being conducted by the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office.

What is worrying is the fact that the fire department was alerted due to smoke developing in the building. When the crime scene was searched, evidence of suicide notes was found, which further puzzles the investigators. This discovery could indicate the personal backgrounds of the two deceased and is therefore of great importance for the ongoing investigation.

Increased pressure on investigators

The current police crime statistics (PKS) show that recorded crimes in Germany increased by 5.5% to a total of 5,940,667 cases in 2023. These numbers represent increased pressure on investigators. The clearance rate is 58.4%, and the statistical analyzes show that an increase in crimes can be attributed, for example, to increased mobility after the Covid-19 pandemic as well as economic and social pressures. The crime situation could therefore also have an influence on the investigation into the case of the two bodies.

It is also worth mentioning the increased number of suspected children and young people, which is documented in the PCS. While the proportion of suspected children under the age of 14 is 4.6%, the proportion of young people between the ages of 14 and 18 is 9.2%. This development is accompanied by a worrying increase in violent crime, which has reached its highest level since 2007 at 214,099 cases. Such an environment could also influence the social milieu in which the two deceased lived.

Social impact

The societal implications of these crime statistics are far-reaching. Due to the increased number of crimes and the associated challenges, the police are forced to adapt their resources accordingly. The need for increased prevention measures is particularly clear with regard to violent crime and drug abuse, whose offenses have also increased.

The events in Zillingdorf are therefore not only a tragic individual fate, but also part of a larger social problem that concerns the investigators and society as a whole. The coming days and weeks will be crucial in gaining more clarity about the causes of death of the two deceased and in exploring any possible connections to the complex criminal events of recent years.
