Massimo Gerardi brings a breath of fresh air to Görlitz with Nutcracker”!
Görlitz. He is an international star among dance directors! Massimo Gerardi, the Italian artist with an impressive CV, has now settled in Görlitz after many European stops. After his training in Udine and impressive engagements in cities such as Vienna, where he accompanied the State Opera Ballet, he has taken over the management of the Görlitz dance company for two and a half months. On Saturday he celebrates his premiere with “A Nutcracker” and brings a breath of fresh air into the theater landscape!
A unique dance piece
For Gerardi, The Nutcracker is more than just a classical ballet. With his special staging he achieves an innovative approach: the entire piece is accompanied live on the piano! The music comes from the master Peter Tchaikovsky, supplemented with creative improvisations. The piece is an exciting reflection on contemporary consumerism, perfect for the Christmas season! “It is not a major work of social criticism, but rather a simple mirror of people’s consumer behavior,” says Gerardi.
An exciting new feature: the direct integration of Görlitz retailers! Eight local shops support the theater project with vouchers and offers. “The auditorium becomes a stage,” explains the dance director, as the anticipation in the city noticeably grows. Wolfgang Freudenberg, owner of the Christmas house in Görlitz, immediately got on board and provided ten vouchers - a sign of the combined forces of culture and trade!
Gerardi is enthusiastic about the great willingness to donate: “I think this commitment to the theater is great.” Stefan Wenzel from the Musclekater sports store is also enthusiastic and emphasizes how important culture is for a lively community. The premiere on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Great House in Görlitz will shake the stage, followed by five further performances. Don't miss this spectacle!
