Laboratory medicine in focus: How the national strategic plan should help!
The German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) has comprehensively repositioned itself strategically and communicatively in 2024. Jan Wolter, representative of the Presidium, emphasizes the essential role of laboratory medicine in medical care. In an interview, he stated that establishing a strong, scientific forum for laboratory medicine is crucial. “We need a wide reach and a better understanding in politics,” said Wolter. The DGKL therefore strives for active communication with the public and decision-makers in order to make the services of laboratory medicine tangible, reported idw-online.de.
Important strategic plans for the future
The National Strategic Plan for Laboratory Medicine, which Wolter played a key role in shaping, is intended to address the central challenges for laboratory medicine in Germany. It contains measures that strive for more efficient and resilient healthcare. A central concern is the required introduction of a so-called cyber cent – additional remuneration with the aim of improving digital security in medical laboratories. “Germany is already under digital attack,” warned Wolter and therefore demanded that laboratories be equipped with the necessary cyber security resources to mitigate future risks.
Loud dgkl.de It is also important that the DGKL is perceived as an independent specialist society in order to conduct the necessary dialogue with politicians. Despite positive feedback from political actors, Wolter emphasizes that the DGKL does not serve the interests of politics, but rather imparts medical expertise so that informed decisions can be made. In doing so, the DGKL wants to strengthen the role of laboratory medicine and continue to address the challenges in the healthcare system.
