Inspirational scientists in Gießen: THM celebrates new wall art!
Gießen, Deutschland - In the Technical University of Middle Hesse (THM) in Gießen, the building of the mathematics, natural sciences and computer science department (MNI) shines in new splendor. Here, large -format portraits of famous computer scientists welcome the students who come to the lecture. This wall design is not only an aesthetic upgrade, but also a valuable source of information.
The impressive representations of pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Alan Turing, Margaret Hamilton and Konrad Zuse are particularly striking. The colorful graphics that extend over two to three meters are provided with short biographies and significant quotations of the personalities shown. A remarkable quote comes from Stephen Hawking: "Ki is probably the best or the worst thing that humanity can happen." These quotes add a deeper dimension to the new wall design.a creative team behind the design
The idea for renovation comes from Prof. Uwe Meyer, the course manager for computer science. The creative concept of colorful design developed Prof. Nicholas Qyll, who teaches visual communication at THM in the area of visual communication. He carried out the project together with his designer colleague Bastian Rothdeutsch. Qyll explained that two portraits and quotes were hung up per floor to offer both visual incentives and orientation in the building. "The dynamic color squares in the background create a real eye -catcher and give the walls a museum effect," says Qyll.
Not only the designers, but also the selection of the scientists shown was the result of a joint decision. The employees of the department, students and the dean, Prof. Peter Kneisel, presented a good mix of important women and men of computer science. THM President Prof. Matthias Willems was enthusiastic about the first tour of the building and invited interested parties to discover the impressive portraits and their quotes. "These personalities have an exemplary character for our students," said Willems.
This new approach in wall design has the potential not only to act as a nice sight, but also to promote inspiration and knowledge. The THM shows that education and art can go hand in hand and creates a place that combines learning and creativity.
