Gigantic blow against the crime: over 800 arrests worldwide!
In a huge commitment to organized crimes, Europol arrested over 800 suspects in 16 countries. This offensive, one of the largest of its kind, included more than 700 house searches and the securing of huge amounts of drugs, cash, jewels and weapons. In Germany alone, over 150 objects were searched, with more than 70 arrests, mainly in Hesse. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the investigation was also directed against people in Bavaria, where several rooms were examined in the Passau district, with drugs and cash being ensured, as the Lower Bavarian police headquarters reported. Europol explained that the use under the name "Trojanian shield" took place, in which investigators intensified telephones in gangs to listen to communication networks. Over 27 million messages were analyzed, which helped the investigators to smash the criminal structures that operated worldwide, including in Italy and the USA, such as Augsburger Allgemeine reported.
arrests in the fight against AI generated crimes
in parallel to this large-scale police operation, the "Cumberland" operation was launched, which focused on combating AI generated child abuse. This special action led to 273 identified suspects, with 33 house searches already being carried out. The main suspect, a Danish citizen, was arrested in November 2024 and is said to have operated a platform through which Illicit AI-generated content was accessible to symbolic payments, such as vienna.at reported. The European crime authority emphasizes the urgency of new legal regulations in order to deal with these innovative threats, since the technology develops rapidly and the content is increasingly no longer to be distinguished from real abuse. European director Catherine de Bolle warned that these easily manufactured images of people can be generated without technical expertise, which significantly increases the dangers and risks.
