In an exciting move for outdoor enthusiasts, Dr. Lutz Münzer has created an unprecedented cycling and hiking map covering a total area of ​​!
Covering 2,000 square kilometers in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district and neighboring regions. For Münzer, who has been creating maps for decades, this monumentally designed work is the largest of his career and marks a highlight of his life's work. “It is my very last new map and a wonderful summary of my work,” says the 71-year-old, who discovered his passion for cartography as a child.

The new map, “The Land around Marburg”, at a scale of 1:50,000, not only offers a detailed depiction of cycling and hiking trails, but also helpful information about tourist attractions such as refuges, barbecue areas and viewpoints. The map is printed on both sides to clearly show the huge area. But there is also a small downside: Due to the extensive area, not all cities in the eastern district could be depicted. Stadtallendorf and Neustadt, for example, are included in their own plans, while Niederklein unfortunately no longer found space. “There was simply no space,” says Münzer regretfully.

Practical information for hikers and cyclists

The map was published in an edition of 4,000 and is now available in bookstores for 12.80 euros. Dr. Münzer emphasizes the advantages of the physical map compared to digital alternatives: “For planning tours in such a large area, the map is much more practical than such a small display.” In contrast to cell phone apps, the printed map offers reliable orientation, even if reception is weak or completely lost.
