Serious crash on B4 in Korneuburg: 12 injured, four seriously!

On Thursday at lunchtime there was a serious traffic accident on Horner Straße (B4) in the Korneuburg district, Lower Austria. A total of twelve people were injured in the collision between a truck and three cars, including four seriously injured people. The rescue workers as well as the Lower Austrian emergency number and the Red Cross were quickly on site to take care of the injured. Due to the severity of the accident, a comprehensive contingent of rescue workers was required.

Several air rescue assets were requested, including the ÖAMTC helicopters “Christophorus 2”, “Christophorus 3” and “Christophorus 9”. Various emergency medical and rescue vehicles from the Red Cross were also used to provide medical care. The traffic situation on the B4 was tense as the road was diverted for the duration of the rescue and clean-up work. A road closure is expected to last until at least 3 p.m.

Accident in Hamburg

Parallel to the events in Austria, another accident occurred in Hamburg on Wednesday morning. At around 5:09 a.m., a truck collided with the “Rauhes Haus” bridge on Horner Landstrasse. The driver of the truck was slightly injured and was taken to hospital after initial medical treatment. When the collision occurred, a swap body loader was loaded and had not been fully lowered, which led to the accident.

The collision caused damage to both the truck and the bridge. As a result, Horner Landstrasse and the bridge were temporarily closed. A structural engineer was called in to check the bridge for possible risk of collapse. The exact duration of the closure is still unclear.

Statistical classification of traffic accidents

The recording and analysis of traffic accidents is crucial for the development of measures in legislation, traffic education as well as in road construction and vehicle technology. According to the data on traffic accident statistics, the results serve as a basis for state traffic policy, especially in the areas of infrastructure and traffic safety. The statistics not only provide comprehensive information about accidents, but also about the people involved, vehicles and causes of accidents.

This detailed data enables accident risk comparisons across transport sectors and helps to understand the structures of accident events. They are therefore indispensable for improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents in Germany and beyond.
