Switzerland overtakes Germany: The new power of container shipping!
Genf, Schweiz - Switzerland has made an unexpected move in global shipping and has now risen to the largest container ship nation in the world. As OE24 , Germany, until recently, took third place. At the top, Switzerland is now with an impressive gross area (BRZ) of 34.7 million, followed by China, which comes to 31 million BRZ. Germany is in third place with 30.2 million BRZ, although the BRZ of the German container ships has increased compared to the previous year.
cause of the rise of Switzerland
The dramatic increase in Switzerland in the ranking of the container ship nations is primarily due to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), which is based in Geneva. This shipping company has made a significant contribution to change through the acquisition of German container ships and the entry to the port logistics officer HHLA in Hamburg. According to Gaby Bornheim, President of the Association of German Reeder, the MSC "took over a lot of tonnage", which significantly influenced the competition. While the German merchant fleet has a total of 1,764 ships, the total number has dropped by 36 compared to the previous year, which illustrates the dominance of the MSC.
It is particularly noticeable that China, as the second largest nation, has overtaken Germany. Martin Kröger, General Manager of the VDR, said that the inner -Asian traffic that China serves with smaller container ships played an important role in this ascent. Despite these setbacks, the German merchant fleet with an impressive total total of 47.4 million BRZ remains global in a respectable seventh place, behind countries such as Greece, China and Japan, like Boersennews
