A cappella music through the ages
A cappella music, performed without instrumental accompaniment, has its roots in the Renaissance and became particularly popular during the 19th century. Many of the earliest pieces of music from this tradition come from religious contexts. In addition to Gregorian chant, works by composers such as Guillaume Du Fay and Josquin des Prez are also central to the development of a cappella practice. Wikipedia describes that a cappella polyphony reached its peak between the 14th and 16th centuries and had a significant influence on church music.
In modern times, a cappella music has gained popularity, particularly through groups using techniques such as beatboxing and vocal percussion. These developments show how dynamic and adaptable this musical genre is, incorporating both traditional and contemporary elements.
With this upcoming concert in Dobbiaco, it becomes clear that a cappella is not only a nostalgic return to the roots of music, but is also a vibrant and contemporary art form. The cultural summer starts promisingly with a highlight that music lovers shouldn't miss.
