On Wednesday afternoon, a fire broke out in a waste paper warehouse outdoors of a paper mill in Lower Austria. The fire brigade use requires numerous resource use due to the special circumstances, since pressed paper bales were affected in particular. The extinguishing measures required the use of wheel loaders and stops to tear apart the paper bales and to be able to fight the fire effectively. The extinguishing work is expected to take some time, since the fire brigades could report on Thursday morning that progress was made.

A total of 16 firefighters were slightly injured during the mission, which underlines the complexity of the situation. According to the company concerned, the cause of the fire could have been a technical defect in a forklift. Something might have sparked and the flames spread to the waste paper through the wind. The investigation by the Lower Austria State Police Directorate is already in full swing to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident. According to the Kleine Zeitung, the forces of the fire brigade have been replaced in the morning hours, which indicates a long-standing work.
