Equality of the sexes: urgent need for action now!

Around 89% of the women surveyed perceive the unequal distribution of money, job opportunities and influence extremely unjust. The perception is particularly serious that the majority of nursing and care work is mainly done by women, which 82% of the participants consider unjust. According to Flora Bachmann, head of the campaign of #aufstehn, the need for action remains enormous in many areas of life. No less than 75% believe that men are preferred in their careers and are better paid.

demands for changes

The survey also reveals urgent concerns of the respondents who are mainly located in the area of “work & money”. The participants want serious measures for fair payment and the same opportunities, apart from the expansion of health care, especially for women and trans people. The results show that a large majority of the population expect the government in view of over 84% of the women who work in poorly paid jobs. Bachmann explains: "In times when oppression and traditional gender roles are visible again, strong counter -models are essential for a fair distribution of care work." She demands that politics are finally becoming active and not only talking.

The topic of gender equality is taken as seriously in Germany as can be seen from the Equal position indicators of the Federal Statistical Office. These indicators document that the economic equality of sexes is still a central challenge. The study by #aufstehn sends a clear signal to politics that measures to create equality and security for women and marginalized groups are urgently needed.
