Gigantic expansion: 50% more production at Octapharma in Vienna!

The expansion building of the leading pharmaceutical company Octapharma was ceremoniously presented in Vienna on Wednesday after the groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2023. The new building increases the capacity for visual inspection, packaging and logistics to an impressive 6,300 square meters, which corresponds to doubling the previous space. This is intended to increase production by 50 percent in order to meet the increasing global demand for plasma products, as Managing Director Barbara Rangetinger explained. The international plasma fractionation market will grow to $62.8 billion by 2031, underscoring the importance of this investment, reported ORF Vienna.

Challenges in the construction industry

While Octapharma is pushing ahead with its expansion, the construction industry in Germany is under immense pressure. Bankruptcies of real estate developers and rising construction costs are affecting the industry. In 2024, construction prices are expected to continue rising and adjust to the inflation rate - a trend that has already been strong in recent years. Experts predict that markets will stabilize from 2025, although the current uncertainty and decline in construction volumes pose significant challenges. Squarevest highlights that the construction industry in Germany will be characterized by digitalization and sustainability initiatives by 2025, which also means an increase in energy-related renovations of existing buildings can be expected.

In Vienna, the new building marks an important step in the pharmaceutical industry, which not only creates jobs, but is also intended to respond to global needs for high-quality health products. Despite the dramatic situation in the European construction industry, there are bright spots in Vienna that give hope for economic improvement in the coming years.
